You can get max armor, runes, equipment and everything else you need to be a competative player with the money you would make just by playing through the game normally. Or completely free by making a PvP character. The only items you have to farm for, or buy gold for, are vanity items that have no value beyond asthetics. There is no 'grind' for useable equipment.

If you do not like to farm, then I suggest you play through the game like normal. Going through the higher end areas I usually made 2-3k per mission.

Otherwise I can't really suggest anything. I farmed my way to all of my items playing 1-2 hours a day at best while waiting for doctors, studying for college, being in college, or doing housework. It may take a while to save up enough for vanity items, but whats the point of vanity items if they aren't a goal you have to work for...?

I would rather work for 6 months for each vanity item and have something to do in GW then have them all in six minutes and wondering what the heck I should do in GW with the rest of my entirety in GW.

I did an 8 minute run with heroes and henchmen in Varajer Fells in NM. The results are as follows:
71g for my share of gold drops
berserker horn - 20g
white great axe - 56g
white draconic spear - 44g
blue great axe - 118g
blue divine scroll - 58g
total profit = 368g

Obviously drops are random, so others may fair a little better or a little worse. But honestly, 25 gold in those 21 minutes between your posts? Wow.

Is 386g a great profit? Not at all, but assuming that drops continued at about the same rate, I could have made 1k in under 30 minutes. Given that that's a pretty average time in which to complete many missions throughout any of the campaigns, it's fairly obvious that you don't have to farm for hours and hours to make a few plat.
So why didn't you invite me instead of taking henchies? Maybe the GW community isn't as friendly as I thought.

I will repeat this. I am NOT trying to be rude at all. I can totally see both points of this. It just seems a little weird to me that I specifically gave an open invite to go farm and instead of doing so you went off by yourself.

Wow.. I'm totally shocked as to how you would expect me to even believe what you have to say when you obviously have something to hide. Otherwise why wouldn't you have PM'd me to go with?

There is a balance point that can be reached here between real world costs. Sure, I could make the 30 plat by spending 8 hours a day farming. Or I could make $10 an hour working in RL...and then taking that money to buy that 30 plat.

There are plenty of other shiny things that I will never have with my play style. I won't have Master Explorer or Master of the North, but I would like to be able to play that game in a way that I enjoy.

I guess my point is that Anet should price the gold in a way so that the "1337" players that took 9 months to get their FoW armor won't feel jipped, but still be able to cater to the casual player who doesn't have that much time to devote.
If selling gold is implemented, why don't we all just work in real life instead of playing the game? Honestly, in that case, working in real life is probably the most profitable farming out there. Sadly that isn't the case for me. I actually prefer spending that real life money on something more valueable like clothes or food. I mean, I just love that burger from Burger King.

I already explained why I didn't invite you. I find you to be an incredibly unpleasant person. I'm not going to CHOOSE to play with someone like that. Sitting here insinuating that I have things to hide so I am therefore lying (because I totally care about you enough to fabricate 387g worth of drops, that's laughable at best) just proves my point that you an unpleasant person.

Honestly probably nothing other than not feeling like I never have a chance to play with people that have a lot more time than I do to play.

Does that make sense?

Maybe play for the fun of the game? The only reason my wife plays is to see all those cute little numbers pop up over large agro groups heads when she Rodgorts them...

Everyone plays for their own reason...in my case I need gold to try out builds and tomes cost a lot. Hell if guild wars sold the elite tomes like they sell the skill unlock packs I'd be happy and shut up about all of this...

I could really care less about your FoW armor...it does the same thing as my 5k. (Though I do have to say I like the sunglasses...still don't have a pair of those)

No, you've just been rude to me since I posted. I started off here with a valid question and I can honestly say that no one has been as rude as you have.

In fact I've probably been rude to other people because I was offended by you.

So it's ok.. let's get over it like big kids and be nice. Let's agree to disagree.. why would it kill you to play for 8 minutes with me? I'm sure you've been in groups with people that you don't like before.

Because most people play games to have fun. And you have a lot les fun when there's people in your group that annoy you. Like you would annoy him/her.

Yes but she's been on a thread that isn't a helluva lot of fun for the past hour now. My point is to grow some and come play with me..

I'm not a bi***.. people are just mad at me because I want to buy gold.. then they start attacking me by saying that I don't know how to play. So, yes I respond by being a little bit rude. I think that's natural.

Honestly if you go back and read this thread from the beginning you will see that explode my heart has been very rude to me from the beginning.

I think that's GW GF's point...farming is not fun. Granted this isn't nearly as tedious as EQ (SWG at least let you set up vaporators and crap so you wouldn't need to be there to farm...hmm..maybe that's what GW needs. The Plat Vaporator. Set it up in the underworld, come back in two days time and collect your 200 plat. Then you could be doing something fun with your time, like laundry or underwater basketweaving)

Thank you Modterrik. You seem to see my point exactly. Some other people here have also had a very open mind. I don't need everyone to agree with me... just try to see my point of view that's all. Just like I understand why others don't want gold to be sold. I totally get that. It's a suggestion that I don't expect everyone to agree with and I think that I said that from the very first post I made.

Actually if you start a thread, be it making a suggestion, asking a question, asking for help, the minute you turn rude, there goes the objectivity of the thread and the posts to follow. Its just how things work. Most people are not going to go through 5 pages of post to decide that ahhh, you are provoked and thus reacted somewhat "not so politely".

We have better things to do.

GW GF... lets put it this way:

You want those amazing items you see (addmitedly quite often) these days? But, because you only play a couple hours a night, you find it difficult?

I know where you are coming from, BUT...

Recently, i have been playing my new Ritualist through most of factions and half of nightfall. I've made sveeral golds and maybe around 20k overall.

20k is more than enough to buy a full set of max armour, and most runes. Play through the campaigns some more, get more money, hey presto - you've got yourself another set of max armour, but with THIS money, you go and make a farming character - monks are pretty good. Learn to duo farm the underworld, and maybe for an hour each time you play, you farm.

You'll find that once you have the necessary items, you still have your farmer. This is when you start getting the excess money to get your cool looking items.

You need to get priorities straight... you want to walk around looking good rather than having the thing that does the job. Your running before you can walk. Because you are a casual player, it means you WILL go slower. But, with perseverance, you will get the items you want.

Money can't buy everything!

you are encouraging a game that everyone can enjoy by simply paying for the "initial game" itself into a game that only people who can afford the extra money in real life can enjoy

No just no no no no no no no no no no no no no!

So after 3 years you still havent got a clue how to make money?
I have no advice to offer you, except maybe check out the farming section?
But if you cant be bothered to make an effort, then that is your own fault, there are too many players that want everything for little or no effort.

thing is you don,t need the 200 plat to have fun, people want the 200 plat for the shiny weapons and armor for its rarity, you can get everything maxed at a pretty cheap price as is.

allowing people to purchase gold well then you open up the purchase of titles, titles people earned already the hard way by farming and purchasing with earned gold.

Exactly (Thoguh I don't have FoW armor, it's ugly as sin! (no offense towards Assassins who're often abbreviated as 'sin's'))! My main character, an Ele, runs around in a mix of 1k sets becuase there is no reason to upgrade, astheticially or mechanically speaking.

Personally I like having something to work towards; a year ago I wanted a Monk, an Assassin, and a Paragon. I have all three, now I'm working them through the games. If all I was doing was playing through the campaigns for the sake of the campaigns, I wouldn't do it becuase I've already played them several times and I don't see much reason to do it once more. But now that I have a goal for each of these characters to work towards, I'm having fun chipping away at a seemingly beyond reach prize in my free time. The fun of the game for me is working towards a goal.
